My Last Year :'(

This year at Point England School is my final year at this wonderful school. The things that I really love about this school is the high-tech machines that we use. Also, my friends have been a huge influence on me. They have helped me carry on when times were hard.

            For 8 years I have been at this school. Through out the time I have developed skills and have been given huge opportunities. We have gone to heap of places. I will always remember these moments at P.E. My favourite moment this year was the year 8 camp, because it was the only thing we did this year.

Most of my life has been spent at P.E. I am really going to miss the teachers and the students. When I leave to go to Auckland Boys Grammar School, my memories will never fade away. When I’m older I want to visit P.E and tell stories of my life to Mr Burt and the teachers. Striving to succeed is certainly what I am going to do.

2013 Netbook Refelction

 As time has gone by technology has changed . For example, we now use high tech fashioned netbooks and iPads in our class and many of us pretty much have moved on from using pencil and paper.

Using net books and digital technology this year has helped me to learn more. The wifi connection has helped me with my math subject just by using online math websites, like Math Whizz and XtraMath. Both math websites have mainly taken care of that subject for me.

I've learnt from my self in my class about the technical skills we are able to access.Having a netbook makes my dream of being a computer programmer a little bit more easier. It is very easy to run terminal commands known as the shell prompt. I personally find using terminal a whole lot of fun and finding things out about the system really fun.

Year Eight Camp

Year 8 camp was build ups as. I was so excited to go camp, I even got up early to go camp. When I arrived at school I found that everyone was in the hall ready to go. We left for the bus and I choose the one that look the most comfortable. I knew that the ride was gonna take ages so I tried to sleep the whole way.

 As we arrived to camp we were in our groups. My group was called the anonymous my team leader was Tana and our Parent was Timmy Jaylee’s mum. In our group my mains were Tana,Dillon, Marvin,Jaylee,Mary L. I thought that we would have a good chance of winning.

 My highlight of the camp was going to the luge. The Luge was one of the best things i’d ever done. At first I was confident but I didn’t want to crash it would be embarrassing.As I went zooming down the hill I past Max around the first corner, as I was fast aprroaching Melvin I pasthim with ease then I got to Tau he moved to the side to make it easier for me to pass. Kimberley was the last person for me to pass so I hit the “gas pedal” and gased her to the end.

My worst thing was waking up early to go for a run. It was alright but then again we could have gotten sick running around in that weather. But us students were totally grateful for the camp that was organised by Mrs Nua & Camp was cool you gotta admit it, it was way better than staying back at school (:

Nelson Mandela

 Nelson Mandela a name known all around the world. With the tragic death of Nelson Mandela, the world has lost a great leader and a great man.  Many people say that “Nelson Mandela saved South Africa from a civil war” between the blacks and whites. In my eyes he mended the broken together not just in South Africa but all around the world.

  I wasn't alive to his life changing moments but I’ve heard many of his quotes. This quote really gets me “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” My Interpretation of this is that a one educated person can change the face of this world for good.

Thrust Investigation

 One day at extension class we did an investigation
about thrust. We taped a straw on top of a ballon

with a line of string going through it. The ballon was blown up too as much as we wanted. When Mrs Telea said go we let go off the ballon and investigated how far it went. After that we made tweaks to see if it would go further then before.

1. The world record for throwing a cellphone in 2012 was 102.68 metres. James attempted to beat the record but only managed to throw 97.89m. How much was he short by?

102.68 - 4.79 = 97.89

102.68 - 2.68 = 100.00

100.00 - 2 = 98

98 - .11 = 97.89

2.68 + 2 + .11 = 4.79

2. Sione uploaded a presentation to his blog but it was too big. In the HTML code he saw that the size was 920  pixels wide by  648 pixels high. He thinks if he reduces it to ¾ of the size it is, it should fit. What dimensions does he need to change in the HTML code?

4.  Julia is an artist. She has been painting a huge mural for the town centre. For the main colour she used a 20 litre pail of white mixed with a 10 litre pail of blue. Unfortunately she ran out of paint before she finished the mural. She thinks that she will only need 5 more litres in total to finish. How much blue and white paint does she need to mix up to get the 6 litres of paint she needs that is exactly the same colour she has been using?

(1+2 = 3 , It is a ratio problem.)

Future Aspirations

  Last Thursday there were some special guest who came over to our school to inspire us. There were 5 guests, Mosa Mafileo, Emma Brown, Tristan Pang, Aysha Hohaia and Caine Warren. Mosa Mafileo a 18 year old inspired me the most out of all the five. His job was very interesting, because he was the Junior adviser for Len Brown.

 My one and only goal is to become a Video game programmer. I’d like to work for Infinity Ward to make games like Call of Duty. I want to go to university to study computer science and mathematics. Making a game that people can enjoy and have fun on,is what I want to do for others.

In the hop, skip and jump (Triple Jump) the record for  men is 18.29m whereas the record for women is 15.5m. How much longer is the men’s record than the women’s.

My Top 5 Jobs

- Rugby League player

To be a Rugby player you need to be a hard runner and a good tackler. I would love to be a pro rugby league player. Rugby League is my favourite sport, playing one of my favourite things every week is what I want to do.

- Game Programmer

I am a game freak, making my own game for people to play is my true dream. My genre of gaming is shooting.  

- Pawn shop owner

I would love to sell stuff to people. Antique cars are what I would be after if someones brings it in. Through the years of owning a pawn shop I would be able to see stuff that would amaze me.

- Rapist

I would like to rhyme my words to amaze people

- God

I would love to be god. I could do anything I wanted to anyone.

Halloween

I think that Halloween is a good celebration. A night to eat as much candy as you can get from houses. Some say that Halloween is the Devil’s birthday, but I don’t believe that. In my mind Halloween is a night to dress up and decorate things to be spooky. I’ve never done Halloween but I would like to.

  After watching a movie about Halloween. I knew heaps more about Halloween. Samhain was a festival to represent the good harvest that they had. It was also a time where the days got shorter and the nights got longer which was a really spooky thing.  

 

A day called Laumoria was when people poured roman milk onto graves. The church wanted to take the pagan things out of Laumoria so they named it all saints day. From being a big success the church moved the date from May 13th to November 1st to shadow the Pagan festival Samhain which was on October 31st. This made things more interesting then people started calling samhain all Hallows eve.

  

The trick or treating idea sought of come from the Church. They stated that some souls were in purgatory which wasn’t hell or heaven but still was a very bad place. Church told everyone that if you pray for that soul enough times they will get out of purgatory. Kids went around asking for soul cakes for exchange for their prayers.

Al Qaeda Attack on Yemini

The Al Qaeda from Yemen have said that they attacked a Yemen army base last month targeting an operations room used by the United States to use drone strikes against the Al Qaeda, and threatened more such assaults.

Heaps of Al Qaeda soldiers rushed in and captured the headquarters of the Yemeni army's Second Division in the eastern city of al-Mukalla on September 30. They took some military people hostage. Military fullas said four Yemeni soldiers were killed and nine wounded in a counter-strike to retake the base.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) is said by the United States as one of the most active force of the international jihadi terrorist network, posing a serious threat to the U.S interests including nearby sea lanes with oil tankers.

Mahia's Mural

Mahia is an artist. She has been commissioned to paint a mural on wall of a company's warehouse. The company wants the mural to be abstract (not representational) and they want it to show the colours of their company logo. They have specified it needs to have 1/3 blue,  1/6 red, 1/12 yellow, 1/12 white 1/12 purple and 1/4  green. They want it to have 2 lines of symmetry (reflection)  and  a rotating and translating pattern somewhere.

DLO about Michael Jordan

   The purpose of our DLO was to show the awesomeness of Michael Jordan. We were trying to achieve the maximum potential with a movie about  Michael Jordan when he did the free throw line dunk in a slam dunk competition.

   The positives was we finished our DLO, did a animation of MJ doing a slam dunk and Waata having a clear voice of doing the voiceover. One positive was that we really united when we had to finish the animation. We were proud of our DLO but we think we could’ve done better.

   There were quiet a few things that we needed to work on to improve our movie. What let us down was that we didn’t have enough details in our animation, it was a too slow, had different size people and last but not least we would’ve made it better by talking a bit more about the actual event which was about Michael Jordan.

We had some interesting things with our DLO that we were happy about. The interesting thing  was we showed the awards that he achieved in the sport of basketball. Another thing was that we had a mixture of animation, images and a video clip of Michael Jordan doing a free throw line dunk.

Rainbow Warrior Bombing

 One night In 1985 the people on the Rainbow Warrior were having a party. This was one of their last celebrations before they headed up to Mururoa in French Polynesia to protest against France's nuclear testing. As they partied not far away in Mechanics Bay some people noticed some suspicious activity. Two men set off in a zodiac wearing scuba gear which was weird for that time of night.  

  French Spies were ordered by their government to blow up the Rainbow Warrior so that no one could protest against their Nuclear testing. The French spies came on a plane claiming to be Swiss honeymooners, P.E teachers and anti-nuclear activists. Four french spies came on a boat hiding 25 kgs of explosives in its hull.

  In French Polynesia, France were doing nuclear weapon testing in Tahiti and New Caledonia. With the new law of New Zealand being Nuclear free, lots of kiwi’s were keen to protest against Nuclear testing.

John Farrell

John Farrell’s songs are stories about living a peaceful life. He does presentations all over North America,Japan,Ukraine,Spain and South Africa. He stopped watching T-V ages ago. John encourages other people to sing and read with their families, rather than watching T-V.

  John founded an International program called “Bridges of Peace and Hope,” which promotes understanding through writing and the arts. He lives in New york with his family of six. I look forward to meet John Farrell and listen to what he has to say.

Silverlocks and The Three Bears

   Once upon a time in the land of Panmure known to most as Pam city there lived a constable and his family.  Constable Jaymes was wealthy man who lived in a house with a water front view.  He has a little family of his own, a daughter, a son and his wife. His son’s name is Goku and his daughter’s name is Chichi. There was some person going around to everyone’s house stealing their belongings. The last house that the thief was at, left a note saying “CONSTABLE JAYMES YOU’RE NEXT”.

   Constable Jaymes was fed up with everything that this person had been doing, so he wasn’t scared one little bit! The constable was more angry than scared to be honest. Jaymes had an idea about who was coming for him. Silverlocks was the man that was coming for Jaymes. Their  history wasn’t good between each other. Silverlocks had been caught by Jaymes before and wanted revenge.

 

   Jaymes had been planning his revenge for a LONG time and he seemed to have the PERFECT plan. He was going to wait until the house was empty and BOOM! he’s in. But what Silverlocks didn’t know was that there were hidden camera’s in the house. Jaymes would be operating them while Silverlocks was at work.

  Jaymes had a family of three Bears. His only child was only a baby so he needed to protect him at all times. The Mama bear always kept an eye on the Baby Bear in case Silverlocks returns. One night where the sky was dark and the rain falling, Silverlocks had moved his plans into action.

SIlverlocks snuck into the house going straight to baby bears room and snatched him right out of the mama bears hands. Using a silver blade he was about to strike down the bear when. Jaymes bite Silverlocks head off and they lived happily ever after.

Darius: I felt like it was a very easy task only because of our choice which was dancing. I think that we could've done more work as well.

Waata: I felt very happy working with my mates even though I didn’t know what we were doing. I think we mucked around to much.
Raenan: I felt happy as it was a very easy task to have during the week. I think the work we produced wasn’t enough too.

Darius: An interesting thing that I found out was that I can’t dance. Another interesting fact was that I learnt that my friends aren’t good dances.

Raenan: One of the interesting things that I found out was that I’m not good at dancing. Another interesting thing I found out was that you have to hold an ipad horizontally so you don’t look like a muppet.

Waata: I learnt how to hold an Ipad when recording movies.

Effective Paragraph

Some people say that when it rains it means that god is crying. But I don’t really believe that god cries. Today the sky was dark, lightning bolts  filled the sky.  Terrible booms of thunder made me run to cover. Rain was splashing into my face it was hard to see then it happened I saw the love of my life. Unfortunately I fell over into a puddle and she laughed at me.

Topic Sentence Diabetes

Diabetes is a disorder which can be caused by many ways. You can get type 1 diabetes at birth. It can also come out of the blue when you are at young age. Type 2 is a genetic disorder which can be passed down from your family. Another way people get diabetes is from eating too much Junk food and just simply been unhealthy.

Carbohydrates : The food that we eat goes down into our stomachs and it gets broken down into carbohydrates, protein & fat. When your food digests your carbohydrates get broken down into glucose which goes from your stomach and travels through your bloodstream. It gets absorbed into your muscles and fat cells that becomes energy.

Your insulin acts like a key to unlock your muscle and fat cells so your sugar can crate energy for you. Without insulin your sugar can not get into your muscles and fat cells and you won’t have enough energy for the day this means you will feel tired and flattered. Diabetes can cause lack of insulin which means your muscle and fat cells cannot absorb the glucose (sugars) causing lack of energy.

Diabetes Is something you don’t want to have. Sometimes you just get it and other times you make yourself get by being unhealthy and making your body suffer. Having diabetes is bad for you because you will have to watch your sugar levels as you could die from a heart failure or something like that. If you get diabetes type one it just comes to you out of the blue but if you get type 3 then you need to exercise cut down on the junk food that you eat.

WOWWW Will.I.Am is coming to Pt England School. Will.I.Am is at MY SCHOOL a international star is at my school. Today is a dream come true. Mr Burt has keeped this a secret until ten minutes before Will.I.Am got to our school so it was a big surprise for our school.

 I’m in the senior Kapa Haka group and we were going to perform live in front of Will.I.am. My nerves were starting to get the better of me. My mind was exploding with thoughts of me messing the actions up and the embarrassment that would follow. We were waiting in the music room for him to arrive.

I could hear the kids all cheering so I could tell that Will.I.Am was here. It was our time to go on the stage. As soon as I saw Will.I.Am I got really nervous. First we started to sing a Maori song then we did a fierce Haka. Right at the end of the haka was my only mistake but the rest was excellent. Then we walked off the stage.

Will.I.Am stood up and started to talk about his life, he lived with his mum,brothers and sisters. His dad left his mum so she raised them by herself with no job so they were really poor. He lived in a ghetto which was in East L.A. Will.I.Am said “ I was going to end up in jail but music,arts and friends litteraly saved my life” Choosing your friends was the main message from him.
