Minister Of Education

Last week the Minister Of Education came to school. Her name is Hekia Parata she is from the East Coast and is a Maori. She comes from a big family who likes to give back to their community. She was coming to our school to start a program that helps Pacific Islanders to get better education. Because the education results that Maori and Pacific Islanders are getting is worse than other cultures.

I had to present a Maori Mihi to Hekia Parata. I was really nervous. I didn’t even want to say it. I was praying that I wouldn’t get mucked up with my words. I started off nice and smooth the words were just flowing out of and before I knew it, I was finished. I went back to my seat and felt a big relief leaving my body. I was really happy that I didn’t get the words wrong.

  1. You did a great job and I can tell that my message was true.... If you practice over and over getting it perfect, then when you are nervous and saying it for real the muscles in your mouth will remember for you and just take over.

You will always be a great publis speaker Waata.

  3. Hi Waata. Well done for presenting in front of such distinguished visitors to our school. I heard that you did a fantastic job. Speaking confidently in front of an audience takes a lot of courage. Good on you!
