Van Gogh and Henri Matisse

We had to compare the paintings ‘Sunflowers’ and ‘La Musique’. The artists of these paintings are Vincent Van Gogh and Henri Matisse. Expressionism and Fauvism were the styles of these paintings. Van Gogh had a very depressing life and Matisse had a happier life in comparison.

The Sunflower was painted by VIncent Van Gogh. Parts of the painting look like it has light and dark shading.  Expressionism was used in this painting. But the thing is the Sunflower wasn’t blooming it looked like the plant was dying because Van Gogh’s life was very sad and miserable. That's why the sunflowers look dead. This painting makes me feel very sad.

‘La Musique’ was painted by Henri Matisse. It was of two ladies and he used very bright colours. Fauvism was the style in this painting. One of the ladies looks like she is playing the guitar and the other looks like she is enjoying the music. The colours make it look very vibrant and makes me feel very happy and lazy.

The same things in these two paintings is that there is yellow in both of the paintings and they are shaded in both the yellow parts. The differences is that the Sunflower looks very sad and dead but the La Musique looks very bright and happy. I like the La Musique because it makes me feel happy and lazy.

I think that these paintings are very good. There are lots of differences in these paintings but also similarities. Van Gogh had very good paintings but they made me feel sad. I like Henri Matisse's painting because it makes me feel very lazy and sad.
